Its all about the $$$$$$ with these sports channels. Don’t get me wrong, I like Football and NASCAR but since I’m always out and about with life or work, I have satellite radio for my sports fix. So the cable sports channels are NEVER on in my home, so I should NOT pay for it. This is why I HATE the cable & satellite companies, why should I have to pay for someone else’s privilege to watch the sports channels when I don’t have time to watch them? As I only watch sports, everything YOU are watching in your home I should not have to pay for.

Canada does this too, with Bell forcing subscribers to pay for premium channels such as American networks, Game TV, Jets on TSN, RT (Russian channel), TSN (20% owned by ESPN), and The Shopping Channel (owned by competitor Rogers), just to name a few. Channels such as CMT and Much Music were also made mandatory (Category A) when they were previously not. Perhaps this explains the $43.57 monthly price for the basic package! Subscription television services cost a lot because people pay for channels they won’t watch.

This is a situation that’s only going to get worse as for many people (myself included), Sports are the reason to hold on to a television package. Yes, there are shows that I watch, but for the number of series I follow, I could buy them on DVD or Blu-Ray, or in some cases watch them on Hulu and still pay a total less than what three months of service costs me to watch that content.
