AT&T Mobility has agreed to refund Florida wireless customers for a $2.99 Roadside Assistance Plan many never signed up for and didn’t want.
An agreement with Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi could net full refunds for as many as 600,000 Florida customers who discovered they were enrolled in the add-on plan. The agreement requires AT&T to fully refund all charges for those who didn’t ask for the plan and never used it.
“All customers who paid for unwanted services deserve to be made whole, and we have guaranteed that AT&T Mobility will fully refund their money,” the Attorney General said. “Additionally, AT&T Mobility must notify customers via text message of added charges and service cancellation procedures.”
Specifically, AT&T will send a text message to customers five days after enrolling in the option confirming forthcoming charges. The message will include cancellation instructions.
Customers complained AT&T automatically enrolled them in a 30-day free trial of Roadside Assistance without their knowledge or consent and began charging them for the service when the trial expired. Some claim they were never given notification of the trial and assumed the charges were part of their cellular service.
In addition to full refunds for Florida customers, AT&T Mobility will:
- Provide prepaid telephone cards with a face value of $550,000 for donation to members of the U.S. military;
- Donate $10,000 to the Florida Law Enforcement Officer of the Year program;
- Pay $1.2 million to the Attorney General’s Office for future enforcement and attorneys’ fees and costs.
Impacted customers will be notified by postcard or letter with further details about the AT&T settlement at a future date.

Readers have been leaving comments attached to this article requesting removal/refunds for the Roadside Assistance program. We are not AT&T so we cannot handle these requests. We recommend you scrutinize your AT&T monthly bill and look for a $2.99 charge labeled “Roadside Assistance.” If you see this on your statement, you -are- being billed for this feature. If you do not see it specified, you are not being billed for it.
Those who have been charged should call AT&T customer service at the number shown on your bill.
We recommend you follow this procedure:
- Tell AT&T you never requested this feature.
- If you have never used this service, ask AT&T to retroactively credit you for -ALL- charges billed to your account all the way back to the first month you were billed for them. This would appear as a credit on a future AT&T invoice.
- Make sure AT&T removes future charges from your bill as well.
At some point in the future, you will receive a plain-text settlement postcard in the mail from the class action settlement fund. But you can pursue a full refund from AT&T yourself without waiting around for that. Just remember you cannot get your money back telling us about it. You need to contact AT&T directly.]

I was not aware that I had roadside services through AT&T and I very much want my refund. If I had known that I had these services l would not have had to pay for roadside services last year (twice). Please follow-up with me by the E-Mail address listed above. Looking forward from hearing from you ASAP.
We have three cellular phones, never asked for roadside assistance. We already have it through our insurance company. I don’t need two .
I had no idea I was being charged for roadside assistance however; I never used the roadside assistance and wish to be taken off AT&T roadside assistance list. Also, please do not continue to charge me for something I did not request

I received the postcard and now cannot find the site they said to log onto. They charged me this amount on our three phones which ends up being 9.00 a month. Sure would like the money back since I never agreed to this
I received the postcard stating of the charges for roadside assistance and was not aware
this was an option. I see no reason to have such service and feel I should be refunded for all charges since I first had my cell phones.
GIVE MY MONEY BACK
I didn’t ask for or receive any benefits from the AT&T roadside assistance and I want the refund offered.
I can’t get through to these people online or tel.

If you are eligible for a refund:
1. you will get a postcard notice from AT&T which means you were charged (whether you thought you were charged or not)
2. go on line to fill out your claim (it takes 60 seconds to fill out)
use this address instead of the one on the postcard https://flroadsideassistanceclaims.com/
3. if you have ANY trouble…call the Florida Attorney General’s office at 866-966-7226.
They are happy to help.
If folks are so stupid to think they can cancel and get a refund through this site they need more than what ATT can give them. No wonder they never noticed.
No wonder AT&T can get away with murder… just look at all these people on this thread… People, this is not AT&T… you need to bookmark Stop the Cap! and learn how to become better informed customers.. Just read the original post and you will learn who to contact about your charges.. and give AT&T hell!!
Many of the comments are so similar it looks almost like a bot wrote them.
I wonder if Philip or his webmaster can tell if all those posts originated from the same IP address? And if a bot wrote them, one wonders, why? What’s the point? Why spam this poor guy’s blog?
But if these comments are coming from real people, Philip can at least be assured that his posts are reaching a wide (if not particularly intelligent) audience!
Our spam catcher is actually very good and catches 99.7% of the spam nonsense, which does flood in here at a rate of around 100 comments a day. I catch and delete the handful that get through. The messages that remain are legitimate comments from actual people.
