Comcast is raising broadband speeds across its expansive Central Division, which covers customers in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
- Performance Starter (10Mbps) increases to 25Mbps;
- Performance (25Mbps) will now be 60Mbps;
- XFINITY Blast! (75Mbps) rises to 100Mbps.
Customers subscribed to the Performance tier will see the biggest speed jump, rising by more than double the current speed.
The new speeds are gradually rolling out to customers in these states from mid-November until mid-December. In some cases, customers will need to briefly unplug their cable modems to get the free speed upgrade.
Nice! It’s about time we get some good news!
Xfinity must have goal to be fastest broadband speed in its markets.
It’s not where I am. There’s a Fiber company available that’s both way cheaper and way faster. I’ve wondered if they’re trying to compete with that.
My observation has been that Xfinity/Comcast will compete on speed if the local market is competitive. If they are the speed leader already, they won’t need to compete. In Central Illinois, Xfinity has to deal with variety of smaller local/regional fiber overbuilder competitors that have emerged in the last 5 years. I would hope that this is true nationwide.
