Time Warner Cable has quietly boosted the upload speed for Road Runner Turbo customers in Rochester, N.Y., from 1Mbps to 2Mbps. Stop the Cap! reader Michael was the first to inform us about the free upgrade, and we’ve since been able to confirm it. Road Runner Turbo customers need to reboot their cable modems for the speed increase to take effect.
Road Runner Turbo is available for an additional $5-10 a month on top of Standard Road Runner service pricing (ask about available promotions to receive a lower price). It brings Turbo service speeds in this area to 15/2Mbps.
Michael is happy with the speed upgrade now that it finally arrived.
“It only took years to go from 1 to 2Mbps,” he says.
Update 9:27pm ET: Kevin writes to inform us the download speed for Turbo has also increased — to 20Mbps. Road Runner Basic is now 3/1Mbps, Road Runner Lite is 1/1Mbps. The only speed remaining unchanged is for the most popular tier — Standard, which remains 10/1Mbps. We use Time Warner’s 30/5Mbps service here, which makes it difficult to test some of these speeds ourselves.
Modems were rebooted during the change window the other night, the speeds should already be there.
I can confirm at least the new up speed- I got 1.5 on speedtest.net, never got more then 1 before, so must be increased. With turbo boost my DL was 4.5 however…WTF TW??? A sad cry from the wideband I had just 20 miles away before I moved last month (avg 45 down). Can’t wait for wideband to get to Watkins Glen.
Thanks for the update 🙂
Doh! Just realized, I’m actually under Syracuse/Central Division now that I’m in Watkins. So I can confirm we also got the up increase, just tested out at 1.74. My DL speed was still lower
then it should be though.
Just checked on TWC’s site for Syracuse and it shows the speeds available as 15/2 for turbo now.
I am in Webster,NY. While checking out the “My Services” web site, I noticed that Turbo would be $5 more a month for me. I am currently at $44.95 a month for 10/1 standard internet speed with no cable TV service. (should be $54.95 a month but they sent me a $10 off deal a couple months back without me asking for it) I did an online chat and asked the CSR if there were any current offers for faster speed service and he offered me the 30/5 service for a year at $49.95. There is a $19.99 install charge… Read more »
I always love it when we know more about what Time Warner is doing than their own employees, The speed increase is great. The problem is execs that contemplate usage limits kill the value of those speeds. Time Warner’s own ad for Wideband shows a panicked college student in a dorm filled with people who probably haven’t been outdoors for years using every device imaginable on their Time Warner broadband connection. These are the classic “heavy users” who have elected to pay TW a major premium for faster service, which they can actually use as they see fit. TW still… Read more »
Phil, I always love it when TW screws up the billing in my favor. I checked the My Services site last night and say that my balance due was $82. That seemed about right considering that my billing period runs from the middle of the month to middle of next month and the fact that they were charging me $19.99 for the install. But this didn’t all show up right in the breakdown of charges online so I called them . Somehow the right code wasn’t entered and I was being charged the full rate for Extreme. By the end… Read more »
This upgrade has also happened in the Carolina’s region. TWC actually has a press statement on the website confirming this.

Hi, I live in Los Angeles California. I’ve written here before. I’ve had the 15 mb down 2 mb up speeds for a while now. I don’t remember when I got them. I agree, if Time Warner does the usage based billing, I’ll downgrade as well. I wish the whole nation would be like South Korea, where we all have 1 gbps symmetric speeds for between $15 to $30 per month. But it may not happen until Time Warner et al stop paying lobbiests and killing muni fiber projects who are willing to offer communities those speeds and more if… Read more »
