Here's a telling tweet conversation I ran across today:

----------------
Jeff Simmermon, Digital Communications Director for Time Warner Cable

jeffTWC: Hulu's most popular shows could end up behind paywall http://bit.ly/5JkmxG

jamabam: @jeffTWC do you think this means paywalls on the networks' own sites as well? i actually use them instead of Hulu

jeffTWC: @jamabam I'm hesitant to project. Nobody knows how to make real money from online video right now, but everyone knows it's got to happen.
----------------

And TWC will try like hell to make sure they get a piece of the pie.

I'm almost feel like we're going back to the '90's with per minute internet access. Charging by the GB isn't much different than metering based on the minute to me. Either way your're limiting transfer or access.

At least back when we had Compuserve, AOL, Genie, etc.. all charging by the minute that was understood by users.. they use a minute.. they paid for a minute of service.

Now most people have no clue what a GB is, how many GB's they use to do this or that on the web, and as the article says no chance to verify bandwidth used.
