If T-Mobile is indeed as open as you say, I will look into them next time. However, they have just arrived in my area and still not available in others.

Sounds like you want...T-Mobile? The fourth-largest carrier and the US and shringking 9as of last quarter)? They'll probably be growing again next earnings call but it's telling that people will take a high-quality network (Verizon) or the iPhone (AT&T) over openness etc. when everything's said and done, though I have a friend who is a VERY happy convert from Verizon to Sprint with his new Samsung Moment.

These cell phone companies need to have the "smackdown". They are screwing people over left and right. A few things I would like to see implemented:

1. "Unbranding" of phones so you can take your phone with you to another provider. All phones should have manufacturer stock firmware not provider installed software that limits where you can take your phone and how you can use your phone.

2. $2 for 15-30 second ring tones that are more expensive than a full track at a higher bit rate.

3. If the phones are subsidized, it should show that amount on bill and a steady decline of the ETF over the 2 yr. contract period. If the contract is terminated 1 month before the 2 yr. period, the pay out should reflect how much of the subsidy has been paid back, not $120.

4. End of proprietary connections. There should be a standardization to all connections on cell phones.

5. People that pay retail for a phone should get a lower monthly rate compared to people that have a supposed "subsidized" phone.

6. An end to advertising and usage of "unlimited" when in fact there are limits if you read the fine print, false advertising maybe?

7. Able to uninstall anything on the phone that may come as stock software that consumes memory and is of no use to me. Also, the ability to install my own software on the phone.

Just a quick list I would like to see implemented. I think it would bring a lot of competition into the fray and lower the prices of the phones considerably.
