What we actually have is capitalism for the lower orders of society and Amsoc (as Orwell would have described American socialism) for the powerful individuals and corporations, who are today's welfare queens, cossetted by the best politicians money can buy. Amsoc is exactly what allows those "crappier services for more money".

I've actually had a right-winger explain to me that the reason American health care is so much more expensive than other countries is also because of America's population density completely oblivious to the fact that Canada is hardly a small, compact country with a high population density either.

As for Glenn Beck, he's a tool, and would not be worth taking a moment's notice of were it not for the astounding -- yes, astounding -- fact that the significant factor of the modern American conservative movement actually regards him to be a serious commentator and leader. They have lost their freaking minds, and they haven't got a clue what real Marxism is. To them it's just a word they can use to scare people into rejecting sound public policy. (If it's public, it's got to be Marxist).

British broadband access exploded once British Telecom was required to open its near monopoly of the telephone lines (it used to be a nationalized industry and thus there really isn't anyone else even close to controlling access to the same number of homes) to competitors. My parents who live in the UK now enjoy unlimited free local and national phone calls (to other land lines) and free calls to the USA (not necessarily always a good thing for me!) and about 3Mpbs DSL broadband all for about $33/month.

I pay about $65 for the equivalent in the USA (with faster cable broadband but no fee calls to the UK).

So, yay for American capitalism -- crappier services for more money!!

Thom Hartmann has mentioned how conservatives think corporations are more moral than people because people are born with original sin.

This guy Neil Stevens sounds like a moron. Actually, HE IS moron. A stupid one at that. I wonder how much money he's being paid by the anti-net neutrality groups to spew his bullshit.
