Do we know why Beck opposes net neutrality, even though it is in his best interests as a content provider? Does he get paid directly? Or is the Murdoch media magnate leaning on him? Or is it just a kneejerk response that anything Obama does and Democrats support must necessarily be bad? Or was he genuinely misinformed about its nature and is sticking by his original views?

What I like about Glenn Beck is that he’s not clever or smart enough to really put up a good astroturfing battle. His tactics are as transparent as a 5yr old’s. What he provides is a good example of the core misconceptions and conflations that the really smart astroturfers (with real college degrees) are better poised to pull off. I find that I can better convince people of the truth if I first show them Glenn Beck. Then I can easily explain how astroturfing takes these crude rantings to a whole new level of sophisticated lobbying.

Mr. Beck is a mental case. His show is definitely not a news show by any stretch. Yet it seems to be billed as one. Much like the rest of Faux….errrr… I mean Fox News.

Funny, I heard nothing in those 11 minutes that even came close to detailing what Net Neutrality is. All I heard was, “OMG, Obama is going to socialize us!! AHHHHHHH!!!!” It is really sad if this is the “opposing” argument for Net Neutrality. When I hear these types of arguments, I think back to that old Ghost Busters Movie where they are talking to the mayor.

“Dr. Peter Venkman: Well, you can believe Mr. Pecker.
Walter Peck: My name is “Peck”.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Or you can accept the fact that this city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, “biblical”?
Dr. Raymond Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath-of-God type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the sky! Rivers and seas boiling!
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes…
Winston Zeddmore: The dead rising from the grave!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice. Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria!”
