I am one of those employees who will retire but you have it totally wrong. I earned my pension and benefits with Verizon, and I am simply not going to start over or give up what I have earned. And if Frontier wants me, i will consider a job with them post retirement. Why Verizon lost 20% of its technicians last June. Retirement rates were great AND they wanted to work, and not that many good paying jobs for ex-technicians, particularly with the people and customers they already know.

As for Frontier failing, what planet do you live on? As we have all so sorely learned the last few months, no company is immune to failure. Lehmann Bros. was in business since before the Civil War and survived world wars, the depressions and more. And they went down in ... one week. Toyota nearly went down. Chrysler, GM failed, but were rescued and what do they have in common with this issue .... unions. enough said.

Granted, we are dealing with many unknowns here, all of us. Those who need to work in the business are rightfully concerned that the new company is sustainable. But at least be honest. You cannot predict the future, and if you can, why in the world are you hanging around this site!? Go buy lottery tickets.

Fantastic Post! I hope the people in West Virginia realize what's going on before it's too late. It's going to be FairPoint times 100 if this mega-deal goes through and a total nightmare for all the customers who rely on Verizon. Verizon/ Frontier are serving up the same lies New England heard in 2007 with the FP deal.

It wouldn't be so bad for customers in other states, where Verizon/Frontier is just a small part of service and they can choose from a number of other providers if service is awful. But in WV it will be most people's ONLY choice and they will have to suffer under Frontier no matter how bad it gets because there will be no other alternative.

The sheer greed and audacity of Verizon in these deals never ceases to shock me. Frontier's ability to lie about what they will offer and do for customers if the deal goes through is almost as sickening. Of course, they won't make a single promise or commitment to expanding broadband service, capping said service, or improving existing infrastructure but like to give the impression that's what they will do in all their PR. The 10 paragraph legal clause they add at the end of all their PR's concerning the Verizon deal is hilarious. It's basically a legal ode saying you can't hold us to anything we say in our PR its all "forward-looking language" and there is no way of knowing whether we will actually do anything we like to imply in our pr efforts. The "forward looking language" legal clause is usually 2 to 3 times longer than the actual press release they send.
